The main goal of the new MarketingIQ Podcast is to educate and inform you, the listener with actionable advice on how to grow your business through Inbound Marketing - from folks actually doing it.
What The Heck Is A Podcast?
In case you’re new to this whole podcasting thing, let me define exactly what a podcast is. The term “podcast” comes from a merging of the terms “iPod” and “broadcasting”. Essentially, a podcast is content in the form of a digital audio file for the purpose of playback and obviously, consumption. It’s audio broadcasting on the Internet, to simplify it completely.
The Benefits of Podcasting As A Marketing Tool
Much like blogging, people subscribe to podcasts. One of the benefits of podcasting is that people can subscribe and automatically receive your podcasts as they are released. So these can go straight to iTunes or related apps that can serve your content. Podcasts can serve as an alternative to listening to music through your mobile device or in your car. So the benefit of a business like yours podcasting is that you’ll be able to speak directly to people interested in you in a pretty unique environment. So to summarize, podcasting makes your content personal and portable.
If you do it well, you can really cultivate a following for your podcast. And like anything in the digital world, that can spread and multiply. With broadcast radio slowly losing the energy it once had, people are more and more wanting to choose what they listen to - and podcasting meets this need.
Since podcasts are digital and people are constantly plugged in wherever they go, it makes this form of media pretty effective. People can listen while at work, on a run, in the car or just about anywhere. Podcasts are efficient on time and convenient for consumption.
Is Podcasting For Every Business?
So if podcasts have many benefits for the people listening to them, then why isn’t everyone podcasting? Well, it’s not for every business. On a case-by-case basis, it’s important to see whether podcasting can be incorporated into your overall content strategy. It’s very different from blogging for example. Someone can stumble on a blog post of yours on buying flooring and have their questions answered - but they might not be able to get the same immediately from a podcast.
If you’re a mortgage broker or financial advisor, for example, podcasting could work as there’s plenty of information you could provide in audio form to people interested in those topics and related sub-topics.
So by looking at your overall content strategy and determining what your ideal buyers might be interested , you’ll be able to determine whether it’s a fit or not.
